LIBRARY COMMISSION
TOWN OF EAST HARTFORD


MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
Monday, January 14th, 2013
Raymond Library, 840 Main St. E. Hartford, CT 06108


PRESENT:  Rose Tavtigian, Debra Arrieta, Mary Mourey, Gloria Visgilio-Lupi, Pat Jones, Librarian, and Charles Casella

ABSENCES: Anthony Foran, Florence Schroeter, Sally Pelletier

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 6:35 pm.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of the November 19th, 2012 meeting were approved.

LIBRARIAN’S REPORT
  • The property at 40 Central Avenue has been acquired to facilitate library expansion.
  • Architectural Plans have been submitted to Town Agencies for review and approval.
  • A new bookmobile is in the process of being acquired through the good offices of the East Hartford Rotary and Rotary International. India Rotary is making a matching contribution for the bookmobile purchase. It is expected that bookmobile usage will be greatly expanded during the period of construction.
CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
  • The Chairman reported that the annual report had been reworked. He also reported that the Library Commission Budget was due and that certain reporting requirements are outlined in the Town Clerks correspondence of December 3, 2012.
  • The Chairman reported that the Mayor had recommended and the Town Council had approved the reappointment of Florence R. Schroeter to the Library Commission for term expiring in December 2016.
OLD BUSINESS
  • The Commission approved the meeting schedule for 2013.
  • The Commission approved the Library Commission Budget for FY 2013/2014.
  • The Commission approved the Annual Report to the Mayor.
NEW BUSINESS
  • None
OPPORTUNITY FOR CITIZEN’S TO SPEAK
  • Reggie Barall, a member of the Fine Arts Commission, reported that she is the Fine Arts Commission liaison with the East Hartford Public Library and in that capacity she has been in contact with Library Staff offering to customize programming to meet children’s needs and interest. In that connection she has proposed programming for the spring vacation. Programs would be conducted in her Circle of Life Studio in the Community Cultural Center. Several Library Commission members offered their assistance.
